How To: 5 Devilish Ways to Prank Your Friends with Nail Polish

Besides the obvious, fingernail polish can be pretty useful around the house—for men and women. It can keep your buttons from falling off, sort your keys, prevent your shoelaces and hoodie strings from fraying, and even curb rust rings in the shower. Turns out, nail polish also comes in handy on April Fool's Day.

Here are 5 simple pranks you can pull on your family, friends, and coworkers using a little bit of that nail polish. Now, if you go above and beyond any of these, that's at your discretion—just be aware that some people have been known to go to jail or get sued for going too far with their nail polish, so have some nail polish remover on hand.

#1. 'Break' Their Gadgets

Take some nail polish and cover the ends of any plug in your home. Pick the appliance or electronic device that they use the most. In the video below, Kipkay uses a lamp (start at 34 seconds), but it would be much better to use it on someone's laptop. Even better, someone's iPhone charger.

#2. Make Their Soap Useless

Just cover your victim's bar of soap with clear nail polish and let it dry. They next time they take a shower, the soap will not lather, and they won't get that usual smelly-clean feeling. This one's the worst if your target likes to run or go to the gym in the morning.

#3. Turn Their Favorite Pens into Junk

For this classic prank, simple dip the tips of your victim's favorite pens and pencils in clear fingernail polish and let them dry. When they try and use them, they'll appear out of ink. This works best on people who actually have a favorite pen, and the newer the pen, the better, as it'll make it even more frustrating for them.

#4. Make Their Coffee Mugs Taste Like Ass

For this one, you'll need a special kind of nail polish. It still needs to be clear, but it should be one of those brands for nail biters like Mavala Stop or Bite It. Most pharmacies will have one kind or another. These prevent fingernail biters from biting because the polish is bitter and tastes like rotten fish and moldy wood. Just spread some along the rim of your victim's favorite coffee mug or teacup and watch their faces light up.

#5. Spill It All Over Their Stuff

Similar to the spilled cup of coffee gag, the spilled bottle of nail polish prank will freak people out if it's lying on the carpet or on some very important paperwork. Out of all of these, this is the most time-consuming one to pull off, and unlike the rest, works best with brightly colored polish.
